El presidente de la republica Porfirio Lobo Sosa en su visita dos días antes de las elecciones inauguro la carretera en la comunidad Garifuna más antigua de Centro América, Lobo Sosa indico en ese momento que para él era de gran satisfacción inaugurar esa obra que viene a colaborar con el desarrollo de la comunidad, soy el presidente de los hondureños y debemos trabajar para el bien de nuestro país, las comunidades deben obtener los beneficios somos una mescla de razas y no debemos tener diferencia alguna para nadie. Dijo Lobo. Al mandatario lo acompaño la designada presidencial Lic. María Antonieta de Bogran. Quien en entrevista a este medio informo que los proyectos que se comenzaron antes de las elecciones estarán concluidos antes de que finalice el gobierno, también manifestó que tiene gran simpatía por el departamento Insular y que no ocupara ser parte del gobierno para contribuir el lo que pueda para el bien de la sociedad y específicamente en la educación. Por su parte el presidente del patronato de la comunidad manifestó el agradecimiento en nombre de la comunidad y entrego al presidente un pescado tallado enmadera como recuerdo, también le entrego una botella de guifiti bebida afrodisiaca de los Garífuna.
2 En esta visita de Lobo Sosa a la comunidad de Punta Gorda también se entrego el título de propiedad que los habitantes de la misma han solicitado desde hace varios años, el terreno tiene una extensión de 56 acres, y es conocido como el lugar identificado por los primeros afros descendientes que llegaron a América. En el marco de la entrega el presidente del patronato de la comunidad narro los malos momentos que pasaron por exigir el titulo y que se entregara esa propiedad a los habitantes de la misma. Este terreno en mención pertenecía al Instituto de Previsión Militar. Quien no podía faltar a la entrega de este documento es el Sr. Celio Álvarez Casildo presidente de ODECO, este manifestó su gran satisfacción por el logro obtenido y dijo que con paciencia y dialogo los garífunas pueden obtener los beneficios que corresponden a ellos, también agradeció al mandatario por agilizar la titulación de ese terreno ahora propiedad de la comunidad Garífuna.
Al presidente también lo acompaño el ministro de las etnias Sr. Luis Green, el Ministro de SOPTRAVI, Sr. Romeo Silvestri diputado de Islas de La Bahía, el Sr. Julio Galindo alcalde de Roatán y primo del Presidente, Sr. Perry Bodden alcalde del municipio José Santos Guardiola, entre otros funcionarios. Quienes se quedaron faltos en asistir fueron los habitantes de la comunidad, no había la cantidad que se esperaba por la magnitud del evento.

The President of the Republic Porfirio Lobo Sosa during his visit 2 days before the elections inaugurated the road in the oldest Garifuna community in Central America. Mr. Lobo Sosa indicated that this ocassion was of great satisfaction to him to inaugurate this road that will help in the development of this community. “I am the President of Hondurans and we must work for the good of our country. The communities must obtain the benefits. We are a mixture of races and we must not have any differences with anyone.” The leader was accompanied by the Presidential Designee Lic. Maria Antonieta de Bogran who gave an interview to this newspaper and said, “all projects that began before the elections will be completed before the end of this government.” She also stated, “I had great sympathy for the Insular Department and I am sad I will not be a part of this government to contribute in any way I can for the good of the community and specifically with education.” For his part the President of the Neighborhood Community Organization, Mr. Alex Avila expressed his appreciation on behalf of the community and he gave the President a carved wooden fish as a souvenier. He also gave him a bottle of “guifiti” an afrodisiac drink of the Garífunas.
1. During this visit of Mr. Lobo Sosa to Punta Gorda he also gave property titles to the inhabitants of this community something that they have been asking for during the last few years. The land is 56 acres of extensión and is known as the identified site of the first afro descendents Garifunas who came to mainland America. On the framework of this award the President of the Neighborhood Community Organization described all the bad experiences they went through demanding the titles and the return of the property to the inhabitants. This land belonged to the Military Prevision Institute. Someone who would not miss the award of these documents is Mr. Celeo Alvarez Casildo, President of the Organization of Ethnic Communities (ODECO). He stated, “ greatly satisfiedn for this award,” and he said “with patience and dialog the Garífunas obtained the benefits that correspond to them.” He also stated, “ I thank the leader for expediting the process of these titles to this land to the Garífuna community.”
The President was also accompanied by the Minister of the Ethnic groups, Mr Luis Green, The Minister of Housing and Transportation (SOPTRAVI), Mr. Romeo Silvestri, Representative for the Bay Islands, Mr. Julio Galindo, Mayor of Roatan and cousin to the President and Mr. Perry Bodden, Mayor of Jose Santos Guardiola among other functionaries. There was a low attendance of the people from the community. The number of people was unexpected based on the magnitude of the event.
